Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 5, 2026

Babella ("we", "our", "us") helps parents track their baby's development. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how long we keep it, how you can delete it, and the choices you have. By using Babella you agree to the practices described below.

Medical disclaimer. Babella is an informational and tracking tool only. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and is not a substitute for professional care. Always consult your physician or pediatrician regarding your child's health and before making any medical decisions. Never disregard professional medical advice because of content in this app. In an emergency, contact your local emergency services.

1. Information we collect

Account data. When you sign up, we collect your email address and (if provided) your display name from Google or Apple. Sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication.

Baby and parent data you enter. Baby name, gender, birth date, photo, growth measurements, feedings, diapers, sleep, health entries (temperature, medicine, vaccines), milestones, words, diary notes, and parent self-care entries. This data lives in your Firestore account under your user ID.

Device & usage signals. App version, language, OS version, and crash reports. We do not link this to your baby's data for advertising.

Advertising identifier. With your consent, we may use your device advertising ID via Google Analytics for Firebase to understand install sources and aggregate app usage. This is never linked to your baby's health data and is not used to build advertising profiles.

Optional location. If you enable the weather-based outfit widget, the app sends approximate coordinates to OpenWeather to fetch local conditions. We do not store the coordinates.

2. How we use your data

We use the data you enter only to power the features you see in the app: tracking, charts, AI-assisted insights, reminders, and backups across your devices. We do not sell your data and we do not share it with advertisers.

3. AI features and third-party AI processing

Babella includes optional AI-assisted features ("Babella AI") that you choose to use. When you use them, the following applies:

What is shared — text features. For Babella AI chat and written analyses, we send only your typed question plus an anonymous summary of relevant baby tracking data (for example, baby age in months and short numeric summaries of recent feeds, sleep, or growth). We strip personal identifiers first — your name and email are never sent, and no photos are sent for these text features.

What is shared — Diaper Analyze (photo). Babella AI includes an optional "Diaper Analyze" feature. If you choose to use it, the diaper photo you take or select is sent to our AI provider so it can describe the diaper's color and consistency and flag anything to discuss with your pediatrician. The photo is used only to generate that single analysis, is not used to train any model, and is only sent when you tap "Analyze". If you never use this feature, no photos are ever sent to the AI provider.

Who it is shared with. The data is processed through our secure server function by our third-party large-language-model providers, Anthropic (Claude) and/or DeepSeek. Under our API agreements, these providers do not use your data to train their models and provide protections consistent with this policy.

How it is used and your consent. The shared data is used solely to generate the AI answer you requested. By using Babella AI you consent to this processing under the providers' privacy policies: Anthropic and DeepSeek. AI-generated content is for educational purposes only and is NOT medical advice; it may be inaccurate or incomplete.

4. Storage, security, and server location

Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest by Google Cloud. Access is restricted by Firestore security rules that allow only your authenticated user ID to read or write your data. Photos and audio recordings live in Firebase Storage under the same per-user gate.

Babella's backend runs on Google Firebase (Firebase Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging, and Analytics/Crashlytics). Firebase regions are configured in the United States and the European Union. AI requests are processed by Anthropic and/or DeepSeek per their privacy policies. We do not sell your data and we do not share it with advertisers.

5. Data retention and deletion

How long we keep your data. We retain your account data and the baby tracking data you enter for as long as your account is active. We hold this information so the app can give you historical charts, year-over-year comparisons, and exportable reports across your baby's first years. Crash reports and anonymous usage metrics are retained for up to 90 days, then deleted.

How to delete your data. You have three options:

In-app deletion. Open the app, go to Profile → Account → Delete account, and confirm. Your authentication record is removed immediately. All associated baby tracking data, photos, audio recordings, AI conversation history, family-sharing memberships, and uploaded files are permanently deleted from our servers within 30 days of the request.

Export before deleting. If you want a copy of your data first, use Profile → Account → Download my data to download a JSON export of every record we hold.

Email request. If you cannot access the app or want a manual deletion sweep, email info@babella.org from the address associated with your account. We confirm receipt within 7 days and complete deletion within 30 days.

Once deleted, data cannot be recovered. Deletion is permanent.

6. Your rights (GDPR, CCPA)

EU / EEA / UK residents (GDPR). You have the right to access, correct, port, or erase your personal data, to restrict or object to processing, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. To exercise these rights, use the in-app data export and account deletion features, or write to info@babella.org.

California residents (CCPA / CPRA). You have the right to know what categories of personal information we collect, the right to delete your data, and the right to opt out of any sale or sharing of your data. Babella does not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising.

7. Children

Babella is intended for use by adult parents and caregivers (18+). The app stores information ABOUT a child but is not addressed to the child. We do not knowingly collect data directly from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal data directly, contact info@babella.org so we can remove it.

8. Third-party services

Babella uses the following third-party services to provide its functionality:

Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging, Analytics, Crashlytics) — see firebase.google.com/support/privacy

Anthropic (Claude AI for in-app AI features) — see anthropic.com/legal/privacy

DeepSeek (alternative AI provider for in-app AI features) — see DeepSeek Privacy Policy

OpenWeather (optional outfit-widget weather data) — see openweathermap.org/privacy-policy

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Babella evolves. Material changes will be surfaced in-app before they take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
